Saša Nabergoj: Experimentator versus Expert
Lecture
Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 7pm
Nova Gorica City Gallery, Bevkov trg 4
The last of the lectures from the series of lectures which have been prepared in collaboration between SCCA, Center for Contemporary Arts – Ljubljana as a part of Encounters with Contemporary Visual Art Series is going to deal with various curatorial roles in exhibition-making process. Saša Nabergoj, art historian, curator and critic, head of the World of Art, School for curators and critics and the Studio 6 program, is going to explore new ideas on current curatorial practices that bear the important overarching shifts.
In the lecture she will thematise the exhibition as a place where ‘something happens’ and not just a place where ‘something is represented’. The third Triennial of Contemporary Art PORTIZMIR titled It’s Enough, curated by Saša Nabergoj and organised by K2, Contemporary Art Association from Izmir will serve as a case study. Namely, the triennial focuses on engaged artistic practices that operate on the fringe of the art world and deal with subjects and apply methodology from the outside world, from outside the ‘ivory tower of art’. PORTIZMIR3 creates a platform that shows the potential of these practices, places them within a broader international art-historical and contemporary context, as well as shows the different ways in which they can engage. More about PORTIZMIR: It’s Enough Saša Nabergoj Spacial thanks for extending their invitation to Nova Gorica City Gallery, Pavla Jarc, and Mateja Poljšak Furlan.
