WORLD OF ART
Laboratorium of Curatorial Practices
Season 12: 2008/09

Workshop

November 14-15, 2008
Project Room SCCA, Metelkova 6, Ljubljana

On Friday and Saturday the 14th and 15th of November 2008 a workshop under the mentorship of Angela Harutyunyan titled Techniques of Viewing: Representation and Interpretation of Video Art was being held in the complex of the Laboratory of curatorial practices. Besides the fact that the participants were acquainted with the guidelines on the curating of video art, at the end of the workshop we have compiled a video art compilation, that will be included in the video pool archive – an online archive of curated video art within Anthony Auerbach’s project Video as Urban Condition.

In the first part we gained knowledge about the techniques and technologies of viewing and their changing throughout history. The theoretical part was followed by viewing of video works of international and Slovene video art authors, their interpretation and a discussion about the exhibition possibilities. In the end we decided on the concept of the compilation. We were helped by Ida Hiršenfelder.

In the second part we looked through the selected video material and conceptualized the compilation titled Intermedia Penetration. In it we included six video works by Slovenian authors:

  1. Marjan Osole-Max: Avtop, 1983;
  2. Zemira Alajbegovič: Vortex, 2000;
  3. Miha Vipotnik: The Man of Hearing, 2008;
  4. Mirko Simič: Out of Memory;
  5. Davide Grassi: Nuclear Body, 1989;
  6. Vuk Čosić: Deep ASCI I, 1998.
