World of Art | School for Curatorial Practices and Critical Writing | Year 16
The purpose of the seminar is not just a detailed analysis of curatorial practices or theories which are directly related to the field of curating. The seminar will focus on the analysis of art through the fields, which at first glance don’t have much in common with what we understand as autonomous art. Part of the lecture will focus on the historical analysis of the various institutions in art. In doing so, the concept of the institution will be understood in a relatively broad sense.
The second part of the lectures will attempt to draw attention to the biopolitical aspects of contemporary art. Through the analysis of various medical and psychiatric texts from the 18th to 20th century art will be analyzed from the medical and hygiene perspective. Such approach will offer a new look at the avant-garde movements of the last century, but also at contemporary activist art that can be understood as a practice that contributes to the achievement of centuries of efforts of government towards a more healthy and happy society.
Andrej Pezelj (1978)
Born in Rijeka in Croatia. In 1998 he began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 2003. During the study under the Erasmus programme he attended the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. In 2004 he moved to Paris, where he graduated at the Faculty of Paris VIII. In 2016 he finished his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Arts, majoring in sociology of culture, under the mentorship of Rastko Močnik. Lectures theory and art critics at the Art Academy at Nova Gorica University.
